Detailed Service Note Content

The initial shipments of the LJ1200N models were shipped without the additional 8MB Memory DIMM.

Situation

Customers will request the 8MB DIMM since the data sheet shows that the model comes with this memory, but it was not installed in the initial shipped products.

Solution

Provide the customers with the DIMM.  The customers can install this themselves.

Action

To Be Performed By: Customer:  Install the 8MB DIMM when it is shipped to them.  The US and the European CCC’s can CREW the part to the customer.  AP CCC’s can POP the part out to them. If there is a less costly method than CREW or POP that a country/region employs to get parts out to a customer, please use this method.  If there are not CREW or POP abilities in a country/region, please have the customer use the standard warranty method to have it upgraded.  Labor can be used at .25 hours.

Additional Information

Please have the customer contact their local Customer Care Center to have the DIMM ordered for them.  These centers can be found at this web site, just select your region:  http://www.hp.com/cpso-support/guide/psd/expectations.html

CCC Centers: If you have a customer with many of these products (100 or more), please escalate to division for assistance in ordering larger quantities of the DIMM.  If some of those customers are unwilling to install the DIMMs themselves,  please escalate to Division for assistance.

Please advise customers to take care when handling the DIMM.  Do not handle the DIMM by the connectors (gold fingers), and unplug the printer or turn it off (220V only) before installing the DIMM.

Note: There is no performance degradation without the additional DIMM.  The additional memory will assist in handling more jobs sent to the printer due to the additional memory storage.

English instructions for installing DIMM are attached (taken from the Users Guide):

Installing a DIMM (memory)

If you add memory (RAM only) to the HP LaserJet 1200, you can print more complex print jobs.

To install a DIMM, follow the instructions below:

CAUTION

Handling a DIMM chip (memory) without wearing a grounded, antistatic device might damage the DIMM chip.

  1. Turn off the power switch (220v models only), and unplug the printer.

  1. To open the left side panel, open the toner door, then gently pull the left panel out.

  1. Remove the DIMM chip from the antistatic bag it came in, grasping the chip on the top edge.

  1. Position the DIMM chip in front of the slot located inside the I/O door. The gold contacts should be pointing toward the printer and the cutouts should be at the top and bottom.

  1. Carefully press the DIMM chip into the slot, making sure that it is straight and all the way in (A). The cam latches, located at the top and bottom, should rotate inward. To snap the cam latches into place, press the handles toward each other (B).

Testing the DIMM installation

To test the DIMM installation, print a configuration page and check the Memory Available specified on the page. See Printing a configuration page for more information.

If the DIMM installation was unsuccessful, see Printer light patterns for DIMM troubleshooting steps.
